Recent Changes, Alter Time, and a Frost PvE Q&A

Sunday, May 13 2012 at 8:25pm CDT
Shang Thunderfoot, polishing his giant melon. I'm not sure why I expected anything else.

First, I'd like to urge anyone reading this to vote in the poll I posted this weekend. This sort of cosmetic glyph is, I believe, a relatively easy thing to implement; feedback on playstyle and balancing is important, but Blizzard likes to hear about the lightweight, fun stuff as well; if we can post some results with healthy participation, who knows, it may make an impact.

Second, I intend to write a post explaining the basic playstyle of Frost PvE. Frost has been considered a PvP-only spec for so long that I'm seeing quite a few people asking both whether that's going to change in Mists of Pandaria, and how it will work.

Mists: The State of Frost, 15668

I've posted this in the beta forum as well, but wanted to put it here for those who aren't following the beta threads.

The playstyle itself seems to be pretty well settled. There are a couple of people who dislike it, but most people seem to think the basics have turned out well and that what it mostly needs at this point is some spit-and-polish. This is basically a compilation of the spec's remaining issues that appear, to me at least, to have reasonable consensus behind them. I'd be interested in your thoughts.

Mage Changes, Build 15640

Tuesday, April 24 2012 at 9:21pm CDT

Build 15640 is being deployed, and there are many changes listed on the various community sites. A couple of notes before I dig into the meat:

  • Don't believe the cast time reductions being reported on MMO-Champion. I'll eat my hat if those are real. First, I'll buy a hat.
  • The damage number changes may or may not be correct. I won't really trust them until the database is parsed for Simulationcraft.
  • Glyph of Arcane Language - Your Arcane Brilliance spell allows you to comprehend your allies' racial languages. I love it.
